Biography
Dr. Alisha Sarang-Sieminski is an associate professor of bioengineering and the Director of SCOPE. They have a BS in chemical engineering from MIT, a PhD in bioengineering from University of Pennsylvania, and did their postdoctoral work in the Biological Engineering Division at MIT. THeir work has been funded through a predoctoral fellowship from the Whitaker foundation, a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award post-doctoral fellowship from the NSF, and research funding for work at Olin from both the NSF and the NIH.

Dr. Sarang-Sieminski is passionate about undergraduate education in bioengineering and since coming to Olin, they have enjoyed developing new Bioengineering courses focused on transport in biological systems, tissue engineering, cell mechanics, and biological thermodynamics. Historically, their research interests have revolved around how cells interact with and perceive their immediate surroundings — with a focus on cell mechanics and cell-biomaterial interactions. More recently, they have turned towards using human-centered design to develop devices to assist people with disabilities and older adults as well as to develop gender-related educational materials. As Director of SCOPE, they are focused on continuing to build the program while improving integration of this capstone experience with the rest of the Olin curriculum and enriching student experience.
