I am a Visiting Scientist with the CBR. I am currently on leave from Northeastern University. I am working on a project to try and understand how people would interact with automated functions on their cars. Many researchers and car manufacturers are developing automated functions for their cars of the future. Such functions include:

adaptive cruise control

cruise control that can adjust its speed based on the distance to the car in front of you,

automatic lane following

automatic steering of the vehicle to stay centered in the lane

automatic collision advoidance

automatic braking and steering to avoid collisions

automated route planning

automatic planning of the ru to your destination

I would like to understand if and when people would uses these automatic functions. Therefore, I am writing a 3D graphical simulation of a automated with some of these functions. I will distribute the simulation in the form of a computer game for kids. I will collect data to determine a correlatin between situations and their use of the autonomous driving funcions.
