Homework Guidelines

Problem sets will be assigned weekly and will be turned in for credit. The problems assigned will reinforce the material covered in class or in the reading. Typically each homework problem will be worth 5 points, graded on the following scale.

(5 points)  Problem entirely or nearly correct (minor math errors ok), well-documented solution method, clear and easy to follow

(4 points) One major error or several minor errors in methodology, still well-documented, clear and easy to follow. Good attempt made at problem.

(3 points) Problem only partially completed but correct OR several major errors in methodology OR problem solution is unclear or difficult to follow

(2 points) Problem only partially completed with major errors.

(1 point) Minimal attempt made at problem OR problem solution is extremely difficult to follow.

(No points) No attempt made at problem.

Homework is due one week from when it is assigned either in class or in my office by 5:00 pm. Corrected homework will be returned to you within a week of the due date. Solutions will be posted on the class website after 5:00 pm on the day homework is due. Late homework will not be accepted for credit.
