  • I am frequently asked to write recommendation letters for summer internships, graduate school, jobs, and fellowships. To help me write good letters and complete them on time, please follow the guidelines on this webpage. Please give me at least 2 weeks notice.

The most important thing is to continually nag me either in person or by email about the due date. If I agree to write the letter do not feel shy about nagging me until I have submitted your letter. For paper submissions, please provide me with a stamped and addressed Olin College envelope.

Please forward to me by email:
    • Current resume or CV.
    • Current transcript.
    • Any personal statement or cover letter that you wrote for the position.
    • The evaluator instructions and/or questions that I will be asked. This is important because some applications ask for only a general letter, while others request that I respond to particular questions. It is important that I know what I will be asked before I start the letter.
In the same email, briefly answer the following questions:
    • What are you applying for? Please provide any relevant web links.
    • Why are you particularly qualified?
    • Why are you asking me for the letter, in particular?
    • What are some of your academic accomplishments that are most relevant?
    • What other non-academic accomplishments are relevant?
    • What direct experience have I had with you that I should highlight in this letter?
