Case Studies

Case Study 1 - Drosophia development Gregor paper (time-dependent, 3D diffusion problem in eliptical coordinates) and a newer paper that discusses the same topic.

Case Study 2 - Paired with Exercise 2 below, we will consider diffusion in membranes experimentally.

Case Study 3 - Binding site barrier in tumors.

Case Study 4 - Student choice of topics involving fluid flow.

NOTE: Case studies 1-3 should be written up using IEEE format. Templates for LaTeX (including the class) and Word are here. The deliverable for Case study 4 will be a presentation.

Exercises

Exercise 1 - Get up to speed using COMSOL doing exercises.

Exercise 2 - Transport across membranes is a common system that occurs in biology and bioengineering. This excercise gets you working on analytical and modeling solutions to a diffusion problem in 1D. Solutions for Exercise 2.

Exercise 3 -Some problems to practice with similarity, dedimensionalization, and using Navier-Stokes. Solutions for Exercise 3.

Exercise 4 - Some more problems primarily on diffusion and flow through porous media. Solutions for Exercise 4.

Exercise 5 - Some more problems having to do with fluid flow and other sundry things. Solutions for Exercise 5.

Solutions will be posted after exercises are handed in
